#MFWA2016 Day 3 – Elegance and Finesse

Day 3 of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta 2016 saw designers pushing boundaries to a whole new level. Maltese and international guests arrived at Fort St Angelo to check out the fashion shows by Adalia B, Anna Romysch and Gaetano and a jewellery collection by Sam Selby.

Show 1: THE SECRET GARDEN – HEADPIECES BY ADALIA B

Adalia B, exclusive headpiece artist, left nothing unconsidered for her show entitled “The Secret Garden”. From the stunning venue set up, to the colour-splashed cocktails, to the music choice, to the little gifts we found on our seats. With help from F Zammit Garden Centre, she created a secret garden on the rooftop of the magnificent Birgu Fortress.

About her collection, we saw stunning designs inspired by flowers, nature and the Maltese countryside. She cleverly manipulates fabrics and detailed trimmings to create beautiful unique pieces. We saw over 15 headpiece designs – some with beadings, others with feathers, others with netting and soft colourful fabric, all these presented by beautiful models wearing simple, white knee length dresses.

Make up for this show, by the award nominee Diandra Mattei was wonderful. It focused on floral and soft hues, with her signature cheekbone and brow bone contouring to capture the light perfectly at the right angles. Hair stylist Lara Steer created a simple, contemporary soft upstyle on the models. Loved the whole look and I’m seriously impressed with Adalia’s talent.

Show 2: ANNA ROMYSH HAUTE COUTURE 2017 COLLECTION

The Anna Romysh Haute Collection is the top brand in the Farage Fashion Group portfolio. These one-of-a-kind wedding gowns are produced once with meticulous care and no dress will ever be like the other. These dresses are the Ferrari of wedding dresses, hand-made with the best quality materials, lace, and embellishments which include the application of Swarovski Crystals.

What struck me from this dresses is how the designs are so sensual but feminine and classy, designed to make the bride feel vibrant, distinctive and individual. The makeup for this show by Elaine Galea and her team focused on the natural, glowing look. The stunning hand-picked models looked stunning on the catwalk.

We saw wedding dresses that focused on simplicity of fabric and clean cuts while others on the bling factor with several hand-sown crystals or beading on the gown and elaborate tulle work on the tail. Believe me, these gowns, made me wish to get married all over again! If I were about to tie the knot, this brand available exclusively at Wedding Bells is the one I would be visiting pronto. Other good news for fashionistas is that this brand not only produces wedding gowns. It creates unique haute couture pieces for special, glamourous events. Please take note!

Show 3 GAETANO PRESENTS HIS NYMPH COLLECTION

Gaetano Busuttil, winner of last year’s New Designer Award stole the show with his couture collection entitled “NYMPH”. Needless to say, this is not the first time that this new Maltese fashion brand has taken the event by storm. A grand total of 20 glittering models graced the runway with all the girls dressed head to toe in body hugging creations with handmade sequins, lace and transparent netting.

“For me, nymphs embody everything that I am trying to represent in my couture collection because they are symbols of freedom and seduction” – Gaetano

Interesting to note that although his collection is inspired by sea nymphs, it did not integrate shades of blue. The main colours were black, gold and dark grey which gave an air of bold desirability. It was the perfect display of mixing elegance and mystery with huge excitement. This is what Gaetano does best and he managed to pull it off in style this year.

We saw many seductive, see-through long gowns, with various detailing. Have a look at these haute couture gowns. They are seductive, elegant, made with the confident, alluring woman in mind.

The makeup look by Natasha Polidano and her team for Nymph involved using a lot of golds, metallics, highlighting and glitters to give the effect of wet skin in the dark. Lips were two-tone with dark reddish hues on the top and gold for the lower lips. All this complemented by the awesome hair styling by Dominic Jr Bartolo and his team.

Wow Gaetano. I love your work and look forward to get my hands on one of your gorgeous dresses. Was impressed with the show. Well done!
