A fun experience at the Jazz Cave Restaurant

Dear followers, as you know I am sharing with you on the blog some personal experiences of restaurants I have checked out in the hope that this will inspire you to visit them too. Everyone who enjoys wining and dining is constantly on the lookout for new places to experience right? So, this time I picked this place in St Julians, situated on the subterranean level of Hotel Juliani in Spinola Bay. I heard great things about the entertainment and the ambiance so I wanted to check it out for myself.

My husband was my date on this outing. So, I wore this exquisite red cocktail dress from BBY, my Zara rock chick booties and paired them with a Patrizia Pepe evening bag and off we went to JAZZ CAVE on another date night!

Upon arriving, we immediately were impressed by the décor – an elegant and comfortable affair. The restaurant and bar are tastefully decorated to give you that New York type of feeling. It’s like you enter and you are transported to another destination.

The restaurant is an elegant and comfortable affair. Beautiful lighting illuminates crisp white tablecloths featuring gleaming exquisite glass and tableware. Jazz Cave features a large dancefloor where nights are filled with music, laughter, dancing and fun. Patrons enjoy live musical performances of bands brought in from across the globe, along with a rather extensive drink list to choose from. Only the best of the best meats and seafood are sourced and delivered fresh daily 6-days a week. All are expertly prepared to each customer’s total satisfaction.

Beautiful dim lighting illuminates paintings and colourful jazz-themed wallpapers, a modern bar at the entrance and several gleaming glass and tableware covers in different rooms. Waiters and bar staff clad in stylish black and white uniforms catering to different tables.

Greeted by the restaurant manager Piero Ibrahim with a huge smile and complimentary cocktails, we were led to a table close to the entertainment platform and were given these order pads, we were informed how to use them and were invited to order food and drinks at our own pace. This order would go to the bar and these would be served. This is a modern approach and an experience in itself. You read the menu items and order the items. Of course, if you need assistance, the waiters are there to help.

The Menu

To call a restaurant great requires great fare, cuisine that offers more than something to eat, but instead, something to experience. Jazz Cave’s new chef de cuisine serves up excellence in everything he touches, whether it’s a soup, salad, dessert.

The starters include a variety of dishes including items such as the avocado and vodka soup, rabbit tarragon stuffed with liver pate and maltese prawns in Spanish tomatoes. I went for the lobster salad while my husband chose the prawns. Both were delightful and tasty in their own special way. Mine was served cold, it is light and refreshing as a palette, while the prawns were so warm and spoke of our beautiful Mediterranean!

As main, accompanying our bottle of red Merlot wine, I ordered the slow-cooked braised pork belly stuffed with sundried tomatoes, rosemary and ricotta and popcorn polenta. Divine! My husband enjoyed the wagyu beef ribs served with fondant potatoes and red wine jus.

As dessert, I was in the mood for the chocolate lava cake served with vanilla ice cream while Marco had the raspberry marshmallow served with a gorgeous black pepper and chocolate sauce.

As you can see in my photos taken on the night, the presentation of the dishes is also fantastic and I can only say good things about the food and drinks.

Entertainment Time

My husband and I love music and entertainment so we were looking forward to this venue in which patrons can enjoy live musical performances of bands brought in from across the globe, along with a rather extensive drink list to choose from! In between the starters and the mains, on this particular night we enjoyed a very pleasant Live Jazz Show by a guest four- man band and also a few dance routines by a trio of Indian dancers which was a pleasurable attraction too. The manager of the restaurant explained that the entertainment changes every week – from singers to Bollywood dancers to Irish Folk and so many other options! This encourages regulars to visit to see what’s on that week. I think it is a great idea and I believe that in Malta we really needed a venue like this to cater for persons over 30 years who are looking for a different kind of experience in a setting which is ideal for socialising.

To conclude, this venue in the heart of St Julians safely nestled by Hotel Juliani is ideal for a date out with international guests who love music and good quality food; it is ideal for birthday dinner events, and also for large seated events. I would not suggest it for business type dinners where you wish to discuss business matters because when the entertainment is on, the sound can be loud. But otherwise it’s a great thumbs up from us and we will certainly return for more! Thank you for the fantastic experience!
