When I make a decision to go out for lunch or dinner, I immediately run a few questions through my head. Which location? Which type of food do I fancy eating ? How much money am I prepared to spend? What will the persons dining enjoy? So once I had set a date with 3 lovely guests, I had to choose a restaurant to meet them at. This time I decided to invite them to NAAR Restobar in Balluta Bay. I had been there in summer for cocktails and had enjoyed it, I read great recent reviews on TripAdvisor and I thought it would be an ideal place for this gathering, for the blog!
I parked in the car park of Le Meridien Hotel and got there a little early to take some photos of the outfit. The sun was setting at the end of a calm sunny day in Malta. The restaurant is situated by the sea, alongside the Neptunes Waterpolo and Swimming Club, with full view of the bay and the beautiful prominent church. I was already very happy with the choice of location. The venue is attractive with fresh, modern décor including white and pale blue modern furnishings indoors and outdoors with orange being a very prominent colour in the branding and decoration touches. Orange is a happy, solar colour, the psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit so it immediately puts you to ease as being a relaxed place. Waiters are dressed casually and very helpful. I was super excited to try out the menu!
WHAT DID WE ORDER?
The restaurant manager Mel Millo suggested that we ordered between us a selection of foods to share so that is exactly what we did! The menu is very well planned and split into breakfast menu, starters, snacks, salads, pastas, platters to share and meat. The wine list is good and ranges across quite a broad span of prices.
We feasted on the following!
• Wild Boar Rotolo Rolled Pizza filled with mozzarella, mushrooms, wild boar sausage, caramelized onions & Parmesan cheese served sliced on a wooden platter
• Rosemary Focaccia served with sliced tomatoes
• Bang Bang Chicken Salad with sweet chili and peanut butter marinated chicken thighs, edamame & quinoa served on a bed of mixed leaves.
• Moroccan Lamb Tagine Braised lamb shank, set on a Moroccan spiced chickpea ragu, served in a tradition clay tagine pot
• Thai Chorizo Octopus with octopus & chorizo, pan roasted with black olives, fennel, cherry tomatoes, chili, ginger, garlic, coriander & sesame seeds.
• Vegan Star Pizza, a vegetarian option including tomato sauce, peppers, marrows, carrots, onions, mint, oregano and mushrooms, the pizza is served star-shaped.
Everything was not only so well presented but this Mediterranean fusion food tasted excellent! The flavours of each dish, with carefully selected fresh ingredients, cooked with flavourful herbs and spices came through nicely. My favourites were the rotolo rolled pizza and the lamb tagine. But I loved everything and so did my guests who love food as much as I do! I can only imagine what all the other things on the menu taste like! I heard they have amazing pasta and burgers and smoothies, so I have to organise something else to return!
My Dinner Guests
I would like to introduce my guests to you. Jeff Francalanza and Alan J Darmanin are the persons who plan and organise the prestigious Miss Universe Malta Contest, in my opinion one of the best modelling contests on the islands. The winner of the 2016 edition, Miss Martha Fenech this year was the first contest to ever participate in the international competition and it was held in the Philippines a few weeks ago in February. Jeff and Alan had just arrived from this fantastic experience the night prior to this dinner so I was so excited to hear all about their experience and what they are planning next.
Jeff is the most polite person you will ever meet. With a skin complexion to die for and a smile worthy of a toothpaste advertising campaign, I always remind myself I need to book myself my next facial! He is very pleased about Martha’s performance and is already all excited and planning for the next edition of Miss Universe Malta 2017.
Alan is a very calm and collected modern gentleman with a penchant for fashion. Attention to detail is what he is all about and it is one of the reasons that together, these two are a successful combination at what they do. Look out for more events and look forward to the next edition of Miss Universe Malta at the end of the year. I really enjoyed getting to know you better. Always a pleasure to meet you guys!
Next up is Ana Klaro the heart and soul behind the brand ANAKLARO Fitness Fashion. You might recall a couple of blogs like The Only Way is Up in which I sported her amazing clothing pieces and I was also honoured to be the face of her recent advertising campaign. I was so happy to meet her again in person. Ana is a career mum, who is very passionate about her fitness goals, she trains every day and is so excited to be working on some new designs for her next fashion collection for AnaKlaro.com. She was happy to be here with us at NAAR and was excited to try out the food on the menu!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and we would all recommend it to our friends not just for dinner, but also for their breakfast and lunch menus. The food is excellent. The view is gorgeous. The price is certainly good value for money. Child-friendly. Opening Hours are from 10 am till 11 pm. They are also very well catered for events such as birthdays, product launches and of course fashion events. Maybe I thought I would organise something here in the coming months. What do you think?
