Date Night at Madliena Lodge Restaurant and Lounge

Last week, I was kindly invited by the new management of Madliena Lodge to experience the venue on a Friday night, to write about it and share it with my followers on the blog. So I asked my husband Marco to join me on this one; He very happily obliged!

Situated in the heart of Madliena in a very quiet spot, a few hundred metres off the main coast road, and yet still centrally located, immediately the place is relaxing and welcoming. With cicadas singing in the trees and chilled Mediterranean music playing in the background, we instantly felt relaxed. The staff and management were extremely welcoming and invited us to enjoy a drink at the bar before sitting for our early dinner. We asked the bar tender to create a sweet cocktail for us including vodka and fruit flavours and he came up with this exciting concoction, which was a perfect start to our evening.

Looking around the Madliena Lodge, and taking a walk through the venue, both Marco and I love what the new owners have done with the refurbishment of the place! We remembered it a few years back and it was pleasant to see how much care and attention to detail has been given to the new look and feel of the place.

Both inside and outside, the design has been kept characteristic of a farmhouse, which gives that homely feeling so that you feel comfortable just like being at home. Inside – looks perfect for dining for couples or for events such as birthdays, gatherings and small product launches for example. Outside – with its new outdoor bar set up and furniture and entertainment corner is also ideal for pre-drinks or group events or a perfect date place for the older generations who would not be interested of venturing out to the busy cities like St Julians at weekends. Parking, there is in abundance too with a car park available for customers.

On a Friday night, they currently offer entertainment by the very talented Buskers, a trio band that plays modern country music. They kicked off at around 8.30pm and played on into the evening. Really enjoyable! Here’s a very short clip I filmed off my phone!

With regards to the dining experience, we opted to order a few dishes from The Lounge menu. For starters we ordered Madliena’s mixed platter for 2 persons which included eggplant roulade filled with Maltese ricotta, camembert bites, sundried tomatoes, prosciutto served with a smoked eggplant dip which was excellent.

For mains, we ordered Madliena’s slow-cooked single ribs and the gourmet homemade burger. The quality of these dishes is excellent. The meats are cooked to perfection, and garnished with proper home-made styled potatoes. We also had to try the desserts! The Baileys semifreddo and the passion fruit and white chocolate mousse were also astoundingly delicious.

Attention to detail is something that this team are definitely cautious about. The presentation of the food, the music, the cutlery choice. When we were there we could notice that all the staff and management were constantly alert, meeting and greeting customers and seeing to their every need at all times. It’s a thumbs up from us.

“They made us and all customers feel special,” my husband said as we left the venue. “Let’s come back for another date”.

I’m very pleased that we got to try this restaurant and lounge out in Malta and I’m hope you enjoyed reading my blog about it!
