Why Travel Makes You Awesome

When you travel, you are bound to experience changes within yourself. Why? Because you are exposed to so many new experiences, cultures, foods and you have to make decisions in countries you are not familiar with. You feel free from the norm.

I believe that travel makes everybody a cooler and more likeable person. We end our travels way better off than when we started. I’m not saying this to be arrogant or narcissistic; I’m saying it because I believe that travel is something that not only helps you become a better human being but a way cooler one too, the kind of person people are attracted to and want to be around.

When you learn more about the world and the people in it, when you push your boundaries, try new things, you become a more open, outgoing, and remarkable person. All the people I’ve known who have travelled a lot are better people because of it.

Here are a few ways how it does change you:

More adventurous – When you become confident in your ability to do anything, you do anything. Last year, in the Canary Islands, despite not liking spicy food, I ate the hottest pepper on the menu. Why? Because I wanted to try it and to check it out. What’s the purpose of life if not to break out of your comfort zone? I had to drink a whole bottle of still water to numb the heat of the pepper, but it was worth the experience and yes I’d do it again.

You improve your conversation – Travel not only makes you comfortable talking to strangers, it makes you better at it too. After talking to people all the time, the same questions get boring. Travelling helps you get better at small talk and how to ask interesting questions — the ones that matter and tell you more about the person.

More social – If you travel alone, well you have to make some effort. You either get better at making friends quickly or you end up alone. You learn to get more comfortable talking to new people.

More confident –When you have travelled the world, explored unknown cities, conquered fear of heights, met so many interesting people from all walks of life who have taught you something, how can you not be more confident in yourself and your abilities? After accomplishing so much, you are definitely going to feel a lot more confident in your ability to achieve anything you set your mind to.

You Become Smarter – Unless you sit at Spanish piazzas downing sangrias all week or freezing your brain with ice cold slushes, travel will teach you about the world. You will learn so much about people, history, and culture, and mysterious facts about places some people could only dream about. You get a better understanding about how people behave, what they eat. How they react to you. That is not something that can be learnt from a book, you can only pick it up from getting away to other countries you have never been to.

You become more easy-going – Travel teaches you that it all works out OK in the end. You have to go with the flow. No need to stress uselessly in this life because it is too short to waste on negative energy. Let it go and it will all be OK.

Feel Sexier – Stress causes you to age. Those carefree, relaxing days exploring the unknown and relaxing in beautiful hotels or beautiful countrysides in green areas you have never experienced before are going to make you more confident and radiant, and you will age much slower. You will look younger and sexier unless you are a Monica Bellucci who looks better with age.

Less materialistic – On the road, you learn just how little stuff you actually need. Coming home, from places with people far less fortunate than you, you find yourself a minimalist simply because you realise what you need to live and what you don’t. As they say, the more you own, the more it owns you.

Happier – Travel simply teaches you how to be happy. You’ll become more relaxed, more confident, and see the world as a brighter place. How can you not be happy about life after all of that?
