Where are we here? On my recent weekend trip to Sicily with three other ladies from Malta, we made sure to visit this beautiful destination which came highly recommended by our B & B manager at the Belveliero Trapani. Once we were there, I had it in mind to shoot this silver dress from the new Summer Collection at Benetton. Against all odds, despite the very strong winds and cold temperatures that day, we somehow managed to pull it off and here are some snaps by Ron Kerr I’m very happy to share with you!
The Look
This pretty silver metallic dress is not the usual Benetton dress and that is why I chose it. Its textured fabric makes for an interesting change to the figure hugging dresses I usually go for. I styled it here by choosing elegant earrings and a matching bracelet from 202 Jewellery and for a colour pop I chose these pretty orange shoes fresh from River Island’s Summer Collection. Simple makeup with a bright orange lipstick from 3Ina Malta .
About The Salt pans of Trapani and Paceco
Sea salt produced on the west coast of Sicily is some of the best in the world. They have been drying and harvesting salt here for centuries, originally shipping it north to Scandinavian countries to be used for salting dried fish. It makes sense really. The climate and location explains it all: long, dry, hot summers; strong warm winds off of Northern Africa; and the high salinity of the Mediterranean. They’re the perfect ingredients for making the best sea salt.
The Salt pans of Trapani and Paceco are an established Nature Reserve – a very popular tourist attraction with thousands of visitors every year. In fact, guided tours are organised, which must be booked at least one week in advance and groups of hikers should not exceed fifty at one time. This time we did not get to see the piles of collected salt but that would be quite something to see if you happen to visit when it has been freshly collected. The historical salt museum and the salt marshes of Nubia, a private structure, run by the Culcasi family are worth visiting once here in Trapani.
I will of course remember this visit with Marija, Kirsten, Lara and Ron as will I remember all the giggles had in the van on our way to this destination and the laughs afterwards when we went to eat some huge Sicilian cannoli!!
