Kempinski celebrates 120th anniversary milestone

Last weekend I attended the very glamourous festivities at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz to celebrate no less than 120 years of the Kempinski brand providing beautiful holiday experiences to its guests. Europe’s oldest luxury hotel in the group marks this milestone with a wonderful event for a number of clients and online influencers and I was very honoured to have been invited as a guest blogger. Aptly named ‘Ignite the Night’ we were treated to a number of exciting surprises!

My husband Marco could not attend that weekend due to his work commitments, so I took the opportunity to invite Desiree’ a girlfriend of mine to enjoy this experience with me. We were booked in a Junior Suite overlooking the pool area including access to all amenities and breakfast and of course we were both invited to attend the 120th Anniversary Gala Night held on May 6th. How exciting right? I love this hotel and its offerings and what a pleasure to be able to attend this important Kempinski milestone event.

About the Event ‘Ignite the Night’

I arrived to the event dressed feeling like a princess clad in a ball gown by London F Café. At the entrance, against a branded backdrop, we had some photos taken with the marketing team at Kempinski. We also met a few other personalities to spend the evening with including stylist/ blogger Caroline Paris and her husband Kurt Paris, bank managers and influencial persons in various industries.

The set up was lovely set up in the main restaurant overlooking the pool area in the distance. The pool well- renowned for its plentiful palm trees and beautiful view from above was lit and decorated with enormous balloons, lighting, fire and lasers reflecting into the calm sky. There were a myriad of food sections prepared including an ice bar with sushi and fish, a Maltese section with traditional foods such as octopus, bigilla and qassatat, there was a live barbecue and also a sweets section with exquisite cakes and icecream selections. Trust me I tried absolutely everything and loved it all! Free-flowing drinks all night and professional live music entertainment all through the night by Maltese composers and bands.

Well, Kempinski left nothing unturned. We even witnessed a fire-fighter dance show and towards the end a surprise of fireworks above us. If you were following on my Instagram Story at the weekend, you would have caught a glimpse of all this. Wowee! Well done for the organisation. Loved what we experienced and that is why I’m here talking about it with pride. I am so proud of our islands – both Malta and Gozo – they have so much to offer and this hotel is certainly one of them.

Today Kempinski manages and operates some of the world’s most iconic hotels, such as the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin, the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, and the Çirağan Palace Kempinski in Instanbul. The brand is synonymous with elegant European service, blended with the individual culture and traditions of each destination.

Commenting on this landmark anniversary in an interview, Markus Semer, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, said: “After 120 years, we’re delighted to pay tribute to an extraordinary past, and herald an exciting future. Our founder, Berthold Kempinski, paved the way for a new standard of hospitality, based on timeless European elegance and impeccable service. He created venues that introduced guests to new experiences, in unique and original surroundings, and his innovative and entrepreneurial approach has remained the inspiration for our development over the years. Whilst we value and preserve our traditions, we will continue to develop new and innovative approaches to hospitality, so while celebrating our past this year, we can also look forward to a bright future.”
