Family outing to The Londoner Pub at SmartCity

Every now and again, I share one of my wining and dining experiences. This week, it’s my outing to The Londoner Pub at SmartCity, one of my favourite hangout places we go to when we fancy a drive to the South of Malta and when we crave wholesome British inspired pub food such as fish and chips, bangers and mash or a mouth-watering Sunday roast. It has recently extended its kitchen and its venue to offer a myriad of delicous dishes and also more options to host events such as birthdays, staff parties and Christmas dos. Giovanni Mugliett and Daniel Farrugia, the owners of The Londoner Pub kindly invited me to check out the newly refurbished place and the new menu. So we drove there on Saturday early evening and were looking forward to it.

The venue at SmartCity is very attractive and warm. You can either be seated indoors where the décor is very much like an old pub or else you can be seated in the more modern section in a modern terrace overlooking the delightful fountain and the SmartCity Laguna Walkway. We sat here as we wanted to enjoy some music and entertainment. We were greeted warmly by Giovanni in his chef attire and we settled down on a high table with high stools. Baby Luna got a sweet welcome by one of the waiters and was given a special high chair which attached to the stool. Once we were all happily seated, we placed our food and drink orders with the waiters who were wearing casual and trendy black and white uniforms. I like these details as you know!

It was raining quite profusely that day and it was quite chilly so my husband and I started off by ordering the pumpkin, ginger and coconut soup served with Parmesan shavings. It was incredible! Very tasty and thick in texture, the perfect winter soup to start our experience. I started to feel comfortable and relaxed. We ordered a bottle of rose wine from their selection of wines and The Londoner Pub started to show its genuine charm.

There are so many things to choose from. As an appetizer, we sampled a Westend Oriental Platter which came served on a wooden plank with 3 different delightful dips. It included two portions of each of vegetable spring rolls, pork rollitos, pork ribs, breaded prawns, vegetable samosas, chicken wings in barbecue sauce and edamame beans. Usually this is served with 4 portions of each but in order for us to try different things it was suggested that we half the portion size. This was very enjoyable and I liked that it was not oily. Cooked just right.

For children, they offer kiddie meals so we ordered breaded chicken and chips for the little one instead of the chicken nuggets and chips. They happily obliged to change the order slightly for us.

The main menu offerings at The Londoner Pub at SmartCity are infinite. From British specials to Mediterranean cuisine to platters and also salads; what to choose! It is a menu ideal for large parties and groups because you can order a large variety of dishes and share everything. This time, as a main we opted for a meat platter which we had never tried. It was on the specials menu and this included a large portion of different grilled meats.

The presentation looked lovely and so was the taste. This platter which is a heaven for meat-lovers was served with accompanying proper chips and buttered beans. Yummy! Well the pictures kind of tell most of the story. We thoroughly enjoyed it and we were in the mood for this kind of food on this cold day in Malta. In between caring for our daughter and grooving to some cool music in the background, we devoured everything and ended up feeling so full and satisfied! In fact we didn’t order any dessert. We chilled finished off our wine and asked for the bill.

Once again happy to have been here and already looking forward to our next visit here. If you are interested to place a reservation, booking in advance is highly recommended especially at the weekends.
