Charles & Ron, Malta’s leading fashion designer duo officially launched their Spring 2017 Collection at their flagship store in Valletta this week and of course I would not miss their lovely party organised by their dedicated team. It is always fun for me to not only get updated with the new lines but also catch up with Charles, Ron and all the fashionable admirers of this now international brand who like myself attend to support their fashion and beautiful creations.
As seen in their September 2016 fashion show on the New York Fashion Week runway, the Spring C & R line features several different Maltese cultural, architectural and natural representations. Primary vivid colours – blue, green, red and yellow. Colour-blocking present once more with a number of the outfits showing dazzlingly colourful patterns combined with equally colourful bags and accessories. These are the colours of Malta, the colours that you see on traditional Maltese wooden balconies. These bright colours are then paired and toned down with C&R basics, black and white and red too this season.

Charles & Ron are Maltese and they are passionate about the Mediterranean, in love with Maltese culture and heritage so much so that season after season, we see the new collections portraying these strengths through the visual graphic prints, colour schemes and play on symmetry or asymmetry.
And this season?
The graphic prints in the C & R Spring 2017 Collection feature a mix of balconies and wrought iron inspired patterns, Maltese Lace, and also indigenous Maltese Flora. Charles & Ron completely understand the importance of preserving architectural and also natural heritage, like Malta’s national flower also known as the Rock Flower which is critically endangered. They are distraught at the memory of what happened earlier this month, that the Azure window in Gozo has come crashing down into the sea forever, and for this reason they plead that we really treasure our heritage for generations to come.
Lots of tops include colourful interpretations of their logo printed in multiples in multi-colours; quite retro in feeling, contrasting to the rest of the more classic numbers. Besides the graphic prints on silk and cotton fabrics, this collection also features elaborate hand beaded tulle, Swarovski and stud embellished Suede and handmade silk flowers. I love in particular the short white dress with long coloured sleeves and the long black silk skirt with the balcony prints and the colourful striped shirts! Gorgeous!
And let us not forget the accessories! The handcrafted leather bags feature this season’s graphic prints and colors and are also updated with a new Charles & Ron lock, studs and other branded hardware. I do like this new line of handbags. Extremely elegant and can be worn from the day into the night.
