A Maltese Love Affair

Have you ever been to the ancient fishing village of Marsaxlokk? Most Maltese people have certainly visited this village in the South of Malta, and they are very proud of it, but for the international followers, here’s a very brief travel insight.

Marsaxlokk is a traditional fishing village with a population of approximately 3,500 inhabitants, 70 percent of which are fishermen. So here you will see fishermen with weather-beaten faces by the waterside either mending nets or preparing for their next fishing outing, while others paint and keep their boats in excellent condition for the sea.

For food lovers, Marsaxlokk is a heaven for excellent restaurants serving both fish and meat, making this town an attractive place for locals and tourists who enjoy a long, boozy lunch in the sun.

Most of Malta’s fish supplies are caught by fishermen coming from this port. Tuna, swordfish and the popular lampuki fish are caught in abundance between spring and late autumn. On weekdays, the catch is taken to the fish-market in Valletta but on Sundays fish is retailed by fishermen in the open on the quay. Do not miss the weekly market on Sunday morning where you will find food, typical Maltese produce as well as a choice of interesting Maltese souvenirs to take back home with you.

Inspiration from the Luzzus

It is this village of Marsaxlokk and all the Luzzu boats that were the inspiration for Charles & Ron’s latest Spring/Summer 2016 Collection. It is simply ingenious how the designers have chosen such wonderful colour palettes that work together and have created such an interesting mix of outfits.

The Look

I chose this short dress because I love these colours that scream “summer and holidays”, the length and its design. From the ones I tried on, this is the one that is mostly me! I wore it here during the day so I paired it with my white Michael Kors wedge shoes and white bag. I know for certain that I will also wear this dress to some upcoming summer pool parties or dinner dates by simply changing the hair do, adding a pair of stylish stilettos, jewellery and a small purse and it would be my elegant twist to it.
