A Blissful Ayurveda Treatment at MYOKA SPA

I have stressed my body and mind these past 3 weeks juggling work and dance rehearsals and coping with errands, so a trip to MYOKA at Le Meridien was one outing I was really eager to experience! When I asked about it over the phone, I was informed that the Ayurveda Specialists at Myoka come with a lot of experience all the way from Kerala India, they have undergone a very intense special training and they all have a lot of experience. Additionally all of the ingredients and oils have been imported from India making these Ayurveda treatments authentic and effective. This intrigued me so I went this week to enjoy two treatments – the Elakizhi and the Sirodhara.

About Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a system of preventive medicine and health care that developed in India more than 5,000 years ago. The word Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit root words: Ayus, or “life,” and Veda, meaning “knowledge” or “science.” Ayurveda is therefore usually translated as “the science of life.” Ayurveda is a form of holistic medicine, a healing system that treats the person as a whole – the integration of body, mind, and spirit – rather than simply treating individual symptoms.

Why Myoka says Ayurveda is beneficial for us?

Ayurveda believes that health should be maintained and it is not a treatment available for people who are suffering from something, It is an effective way to keep body, mind and spirit in harmony. Conventional medicines are aimed to eliminate the diseases from the body, not to maintain the health of a healthy person so we have to keep our health in shape through exercise, eating healthy and maintain healthy habits.

MY EXPERIENCE

I arrived at the beautiful Myoka Spa at Le Meridien Hotel in the morning to be greeted by the warm and friendly spa assistants and after a lovely pot of peppermint tea in the outdoor garden, I went to the room where the delightful Neethu was waiting for me. Neethu is Indian and her aura is incredible, so I felt I could trust her the minute I met her.

She performed an ELAKIZHI massage. It is one of the most relaxing and refreshing massages on the list of Ayurveda treatments. Fresh Herbs are cooked in Ayurveda oils and packed into bags, then applied over the body to help in lubricating the joint and relieve joint pains, especially backaches. The massage also cleanses the channels of circulation and expels toxins.

Benefits:

– Muscle Tension relief
– Detoxifying
– Treating Arthritis
– Highly recommended in treating rheumatic conditions
– Muscular weaknesses
– Body rejuvenation
– Nourishing

This was just what I needed following the few days of dance rehearsals at the theatre for the show I took part in this week! The second treatment I enjoyed was one that has been on my bucket list for a long time – the SHIRODHARA. This is a form of Ayurveda therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead. In this treatment, warm herbal oils are poured in a slow steady stream on the forehead. This treatment is profoundly relaxing, nourishing and it will improve mental clarity and comprehension. I don’t know how to express it in words but during this treatment on this wooden bed (which is said to also have healing properties), when the oil was being poured over my forehead, I felt as though I was being cleansed of all my thoughts, brought to the moment and I lost track of time. When I opened my eyes, I was so relaxed that I needed some time to gather my wits again. It’s that peaceful and calming to the soul …

Benefits:
– Deep Relaxation
– Relieves stress, anxiety and depression
– Reduces and relieves migraine headaches
– Decreases hair loss and fatigue
– Stimulates the 3rd eye and crown chakras
