BMW and denim jeans

All of you who follow my posts, must guess by now that I love beautiful cars both the supercars and the classics. From when I was very young, before life became so busy that you only have time for a 10 minute car wash service, I would meet up at weekends with my neighbours and enjoy washing cars outside our houses. It was a social thing. We would hold competitions to see whose car would be the cleanest, and the winner would win 20 euro or something of the sort to spend at the weekend .

Every so often, to fulfil my cravings for adrenalin rushes and beautiful machines, I make it a point to find a way of driving a special car, just for a spin for the day, to feel its power, to listen to its engine and enjoy that feeling of freedom and excitement, behind the wheel. The other week, I had the pleasure of being entrusted with this luxurious BMW 7 Series thanks to Signature Brands, a company that leases and rents out luxury cars including Maseratis and Porsches in Malta. With the photographer,I enjoyed some freshly tarmacked roads and great views of the coast road. We headed towards the north of Malta, with a stop at the Selmun Tower in Mellieha.

This tower was built in the early 18th century by the Monte di Redenzione, a society that was originally set up to raise funds for freeing of Christian slaves. The tower was rented out to the knights to be used as a place to relax and hunt wild rabbits.

When I drive a BMW like this, I remind myself how I appreciate beautiful machines. About 8 years ago, I used to run the marketing and events department at Muscats Motors in Malta and hence one of the lucky few to drive brand new cars such as BMWs, MINIs and Range Rovers hot off the production lines, to take them to the launch venues. Sometimes I would even keep them over the weekend for marketing and test-driving. Loved cars then and I still do now. I find any excuse to visit exhibitions or drive luxury sportscars. Those who share that same passion will understand. It’s kind of the same like when a dancer feels that rush on stage, with those soft lights hit your skin and your heart pumping during every performance. You miss it and you crave it every so often!
