The countdown to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta and the Chamilia Fashion Awards 2016 begins! With less than one week to go to what promises to be one of Malta’s most prestigious and internationally acclaimed events in the island’s fashion industry, preparations are well under way from organisers, designers and media teams making all the arrangements necessary to give their best performance!
This will be one incredible week including splendid fashion shows, events and glamorous parties attracting Malta’s best talent in the fashion industry from fashion designers to catwalk models, stylists and make-up artists, photographers, bloggers, writers and other fashionistas working as one, to make this an event of the highest standard, as we see happening in other international fashion capitals worldwide.
I’m so excited to be a part of the bloggers team this year! As you know, it is my first experience and I’m thrilled to have been entrusted with the task of bringing you fresh news from the event through my blog page, Facebook and Instagram Pages. So please, follow and share my posts during Fashion Week!
I’m looking forward to see the shows that the various Maltese fashion designers and technical artists have prepared for us all!
What is Happening Day by Day
This year the main events will be held at Fort Saint Angelo in Birgu, which will allow different shows to be held on the same day in closer proximity to eachother. Compared to previous years, this will make the work of the media and organisers slightly more logistically practical to manage. Take note of the shows you wish to attend.
Day 1 – Saturday 14th May
The first shows start in Valletta, Malta’s Capital City with the New Designers fashion show being held at Republic Street in front of Teatru Rjal. In the evening, also in Valletta, there is the launch of the Photography Exhibition at Pjazza San Gorg.
Day 2 – Sunday 15th May
At Fort Saint Angelo, on Sunday evening there is a fashion show organized by The Point as well as an exhibition of printed silk scarves by Saz Mifsud.
Day 3 – Monday 16th May
Three catwalk shows at different venues within the Fortress are planned for us. First is the collection of be-spoke handmade head pieces by Adalia B., followed by Sam Selby Sirena collection of handmade jewellery launch. All this followed by a catwalk show of bridal fashion from the Anna Romysh Haute Couture 2017 Collection and after this Gaetano presents his Nymph Collection. All these events are in different setup locations around Fort Saint Angelo.
Day 4 – Tuesday 17th May
Maltese label Parascandalo opens the show line-up. This year we have new artists including Rosita and Claudia Goagara showcasing hand painted silk gowns and gown creations.
Wednesday 18th May
Maltese designer fashion label Carla Grima Atelier present their Ophelia S/S 2016 collection on Wednesday 18th at sunset, followed by a fashion show by Eymeric Francois. In between these two shows, Maltese artistic designer Désirée. Presents exclusive art on men’s and women’s shoes.
Thursday 19th May
Three other exciting shows here. Firstly a collection from Freeze Frame, followed by Ritienne Zammit with her Je Suis A/W 2016 collection and then a first for MFWA – three collections for the fuller bodied woman by Marina Rinaldi and Elena Miro from Italy and Basler from Germany.
Friday 20th May
Friday brings us a Gagliardi collection, followed by a show by Milica Trickovic from Serbia and last but not least Insomnia – an aggressive and daring collection of gowns by the fashion brand Nilara. After this time to party!
Saturday 21st May
After a whole week of shows, the week closes with the Chamilia Malta Fashion Awards on Saturday 21st May including the announcement of the award-winners, more entertainment and more excitement to keep us partying to the early hours of Sunday morning, or at least that is the plan!
If you love fashion and are proud of the Maltese artists we have, I have no doubt that you will make it a point to make it to some shows and parties and spread the love on social media with all your friends! Let’s make this together another experience to remember!
