The Harmony of The Seas cruise holiday transported us to another destination – the pretty town of Marseille in France. My husband and I caught a cab to the Old Port where we spent a day sightseeing and enjoying the beautiful views of the marina and its bustling activity. Of course, we also took some photos of this lovely Lucinda dress from the Spring/Summer 2016 collection by Malta’s fashion designer brand Charles & Ron in a collaboration with Badass Wardrobe to share with you here and on Instagram!

About Marseille
Today the Old Port, just 20 feet deep, is unable to accommodate commercial marine traffic, which now pursues in and out of the nearby port of Joliette. Instead it’s the largest of the city’s marinas, with 3,500 berths for which traditional fishing boats, or “pointus”, berth alongside huge, glamorous yachts, a handful of ships and other motor boats.
The Old Port of Marseille is located at the end of the Canebière. It has been the natural harbour of Marseille since ancient times and is now the main popular place in Marseille, mainly pedestrian since 2013. The Old Port is lined by restaurants and cafés.
We learnt from a local that the shortest side of the port has kept changing its name through the centuries. Since 2000, it is called the Quai de la Fraternité on the side nearest the harbour and Quai des Belges on the side closest to the town.
This is where you can find the shuttle boats to the Château d’If, to Pointe Rouge and to L’Estaque as well as the boat companies offering excursions to the calanques. A ferry boat service crosses the harbour every few minutes between the Town Hall (La Mairie) on the quai du Port and the Bar de la Marine on the quai de Rive Neuve.
We didn’t have enough time on our hands to take day long excursions since we had to return to the ship by early afternoon. We just wanted to relax and enjoy a few ice creams in the sun. However, I must say this could be a perfect weekend getaway destination for us for future, as there are so many sightseeing options and several restaurants to explore! Note to self 🙂
