My Sparkly Dress featuring Verjiniq Jomes

In this week’s fashion blog, I thought of attempting a different approach to the usual by interviewing, and taking photographs of Verjiniq Jomes, a Bulgarian beauty who currently lives in Malta with her Maltese family and is one of the finalist contestants in an upcoming modelling competition called World Next Top Model Malta 2016.

Apart from being slightly envious of Verjiniq for having the longest and skinniest legs on the planet, I admire this young beauty because despite being a mum of two young toddlers, and having a very amiable character, being a mum has not stopped her from following some of her dreams. These include taking part in this international competition and for also keeping up to date with the latest fashion trends.

I picked this short cocktail sequin dress for her from French Connection because I love the mix of colours and all the glittery texture it has and who better to showcase it than her! For this shape of dress you have to be blessed with a tall and slim silhouette, to highlight its design lines and its flow. I paired it with patent leather shoes by Roberto del Carlo. Verjiniq admits to love clothes that have sparkly touches and enjoys mixing textures like leather with fur, and sequin with leather pieces.

The backdrop for the photo shoot was the magnificent Vittoriosa Marina. I believe that the contrast of the buildings rich in their blandness and rich character makes the colours of the dress, the model’s hair and skin colour stand out more.

The theme of the shoot is of a lady who has been out partying all night with her girlfriends and is on her way home to face the reality of the day again. So, we had the hair and the make-up styled with that theme in mind. I think she looks stunning whatever she wears, but this dress suits her immensely and I’m sure you agree with me!

Dear Verjiniq, I wish you luck in your competition coming up in March. I have respect for all women, especially mums, who still follow their passions through, no matter how big or small. During this session, we have also taken some casual wear photos, which I will be sharing with you next month.

Personal tip of the week

When wearing a sequin dress like this one, avoid sparkle overload by keeping the accessories simple. I do not suggest wearing large earrings when the hair is down, because the dress is busy as it is. Perhaps a pair of delicate stud earrings are a better match than dramatic chandelier type ones.
