A Collaboration with Mermaids Club Malta
Mermaids – those half-human, half-fish sirens of the sea — are legendary sea creatures chronicled in maritime cultures since time immemorial. The ancient Greek poet Homer wrote of them in The Odyssey. In the ancient Far East, mermaids were the wives of powerful sea-dragons, and served as trusted messengers between their spouses and the emperors on land. The aboriginal people of Australia call mermaids yawkyawks – a name that may refer to their mesmerising songs.
The belief in mermaids may have arisen at the very dawn of our species. Magical female figures first appear in cave paintings in the late Paleolithic period some 30,000 years ago, when modern humans gained dominion over the land and, presumably, began to sail the seas. Half-human creatures, called chimeras, also abound in mythology — in addition to mermaids, there were wise centaurs, wild satyrs, and frightful minotaurs, to name but a few.
But are mermaids real? No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Why, then, do they occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring peoples? That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists.
I choose to believe that mermaids exist, in the deep oceans, in another dimension, and they have not made contact with us humans, in this decade we live in, because our energies are not at the same level, we dont see them with our naked eyes if they do visit us and let’s face it, we must seem pretty nasty selfish beings, collectively, looking at how we treat Earth and the seas from their view point.
But I’m not here to discuss what I think… I’m curious to know what you think and what you tell your children when you talk about legends and stories and I wish to dedicate this blog to these creatures who we might never get to see in this lifetime!
MERMAIDS FOR A DAY
So, I’d like to share this amazing experience I shared with my 5 year old daughter Luna who LOVES MERMAIDS and UNICORNS, like her mummy of course. So when we had the pleasure to be contacted by Alex at Mermaids Club Malta, this company who organises this Mermaid Dress Up and Photoshoot service in Malta, I just couldn’t wait to surprise little Luna!!
Bless her, she had no idea what was going on when I dressed her up and drove for about an hour from central Malta to Ghar Lapsi Bay which is the location that was chosen by the organising team for our experience. I parked in the car park and walked down the little bay which, despite being early morning was already packed with delighted swimmers of all ages. We were greeted by Alex the founder and photographer at Mermaids Club who showed us to the area where she had all the fancy costumes for me and Luna, including gorgeous tiaras, seashells, mermaid fins… you name it.. Mermaid stuff – she had it!
When we told Luna what she was in for, a Dress Up Mermaid Photoshoot Experience with me, she was SOOOO HAPPY and SOOO EXCITED! I mean .. she just adores mermaids and make up and all types of glittery things so this was going to be up her alley – and when she does something with me, she enjoys it a lot being with her mama, and I love sharing experiences like this with her too!
And she sooooo rocked the photoshoot. OMG. I didn’t have any tips for her, she just enjoyed the experience and she felt extremely comfortable. I was so proud to see her feel so comfortable and confident and she acted like a cute mermaid; She loved every minute!
We both wore a costume and were photographed for about 1 hour or so plus we had some time to even swim with the costumes if we wanted to.
WHAT DOES MERMAIDS CLUB PACKAGE INCLUDE?
The package we experienced includes a 90 Minutes Photo Session (suitable for two persons) with all taken images as they are (400 to 600) and you get to choose 10 Art Retouched images.
