Martha Fenech wins the title in the Miss Universe Malta 2016 competition held yesterday evening 26th August, 2016 at the Hilton Malta Conference Hall and televised on OneTV. After years of absence, Malta will be making its reappearance at the Miss Universe pageant. Organised by Alan J. Darmanin and Jeff Francalanza from Glow Promotions.
The event hosted by Wayne Aquilina and Mireille Bonello and sponsored by Land Rover in Malta, Rocs Group, Inglot Malta, Milu by Mimi, Piccinino and other prestigious brands was a wonderful evening for all viewers and judges. It included a well-organised array of fashion shows, short entertainment spots and most-importantly three sections in which the 24 beautiful contestants could showcase their outer and inner beauty, their personality on stage and their modelling talents.
I was very honoured to be one of the 7 judges on the panel. It was a very tough job for us all to judge these ladies, especially the final 5, when we all know how many months they have been working hard to place in the final cut, striving to give their best performance in this prestigious competition and be in the chance to be crowned winners.
The newly crowned Miss Universe Malta Martha Fenech from St Julians is a Miss World Alumni. She has also represented Malta at Miss World 2008. Martha stood out in my opinion for her experienced and what seemed effortless performance. She had an excellent poise, she wore the evening gowns and the white swimsuit very well and her hair and make up looked impeccable. She also gave a heartfelt answer in the final round which captured the audience and the judges’ hearts. This beautiful winner Martha will be representing Malta in the biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant in the world which will be held in either the Philippines or Las Vegas, organiser Jeff Francalanza said when I asked him before the show started.
The second runner up Dajana Laketic from Swatar had an outstanding performance all evening. She looked stunning and spoke very well in her final question. Christine Mifsud who was a strong contender and made it to the final 2 showed excellent stage presence and maintained her beautiful signature smile to the very end.
Miss Universe will be telecast in over forty different countries, and is watched by over one billion people.
I ‘m very grateful to have had this opportunity to experience this wonderful evening. To each and every contestant who participated last night and did not win this competition, I would just hope that this growing experience will not stop you from exploring other opportunities. May this event be a stepping stone to other ones and I hope that what you learnt from this competition in terms of skills, experience, mannerisms, you will carry it with you to your next competition. It will make you stronger. Maltese people are known for their strong determination and hard work and I really look forward to seeing some of you ladies in other competitions. If this is really your dream, go hard and never give up.
Love to all xxx
