Mediterranean Dreams

As I enjoy a day at the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Golden Sands Malta on a gorgeous sunny summer’s day, shooting some pretty clothes and jewellery for the blog, a few thoughts from the past spring to mind and I take the opportunity to have a little heart to heart with you about it. For a Mediterranean woman, I am small or “petite” as I like to call it. At school, at a young age, I was constantly reminded of the fact when our teachers made us line up for anything and everything. We had to often stand in line from shortest to tallest and I was pretty much always the first, second or third in line (sigh). My friends at school were so tall and they developed early, long-legged beauties with fully formed breasts. It was at approximately 16 years of age that I fully developed as a woman, and I knew then that I would no longer grow any taller.

Why am I telling you this? Because one of my dreams as a teenager, like that of many young girls, ie that of being a model on any sort of catwalk, the ones that shoot nothing but beautiful editorials,  was completely shattered when by the age of twenty, I knew there would be no further developments in my height department. (another sigh)

I learned fast enough though that being photogenic in front of a camera was one of my strong suits and it might just come in handy,  so at the weekends and during summer vacations, I would spend some afternoons with my now-deceased aunty Carmen shooting clothing and posing, just for fun by the pool at home or go out to the countryside and just take photos and that was so rewarding. Back then, neither the internet nor digital photography had  yet appeared in our lives. It was just something I liked to do as a hobby – collecting photographs. I would print the photos and collect them in organised albums and try to see how I could improve from one shoot to the next. I wonder how many other ladies did that too growing up!

My other interests as a teenager, I remember clearly were very focused on three things – my studies, dancing and boys! I studied very hard at school and always had good grades that made my parents proud and yes I did have quite a few crushes on the type of guys who back then would not even look at me – and I was quite shy back then. I felt so insecure in myself, my height, my curvy figure, I felt I didn.t quite fit in –  so I turned to dancing where I found my home, my sense of security in my body and soul and when I hit the dance floor or the stage, I felt the strongest, most beautiful person in the world. I took dancing to a professional level and dancing at various theatres in Malta and Gozo and in London and I also performed in cabaret shows in hotels and TV shows for over a decade. It was one of my dreams come true.

It took me many years to gain self confidence though in myself, in accepting myself just the way I am. I’m sharing this now with you because I’m sure there are so many young girls or men who feel they are not attractive enough or not good enough. I hope you all do see eventually how gorgeous you all are just the way you are – and whoever truly loves you will love you with all your faults and quirkiness. Today, even after giving birth to a baby girl and working to keep myself fit and focused, I am very comfortable in my skin. Yes I have some insecurities of course but I feel so blessed with everything and I just live every day with a positive attitude, happy to be ME.

How ironic it is though right that roughly twenty years later I have created my own type of modelling, my own Mediterranean dream in which I am able to wear these beautiful designer dresses and shoes and wear wonderful jewellery without being two metres tall or having that pouty look. I am once again doing something that society told me I couldn’t years ago. I became a blogger.

I know how to work my most photogenic angles, and how to walk or pose to make myself look longer in a photo, yet I still struggle sometimes with wearing those amazing runway gowns because they are too long – or rather I am too “petite” for them.

But, a little challenge never held Grazielle back, so once again I just pick my favourite summer dresses that are suitable for me; this nude long dress with a flower pattern and a sexy slit on one side comes out straight from one of my favourite stores at Bay Street – London F Cafe. Paired it with this trending bag from the international brand ROSEGAL and once again a beautiful selection of jewellery from 202 Jewellery.

202 Jewellery – several brands under one roof

What I enjoy about visiting 202 Jewellery emporiums is that they offer a selection of over 12 brands under one roof so apart from the choice, you can also mix brands to style your outfit, like I did here.

I am wearing a Bronzallure set – earrings and bracelet and also a Christina Jewellery watch.

I love this look for outings to dinners, events and of course cocktail nights at beautiful hotels.

Hope you like it too!
