Floral Love from Valletta City

Valletta,a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen. In preparation for its supremacy as European Capital of Culture in 2018, many of the islands’ most impressive historic sites have been restored, gourmet restaurants and boutique hotels have sprung up, and exciting new nightlife and outdoor activities scenes have begun to develop. We will be showing you some interesting spots and new venues soon here on my blog in September and October!

Isn’t amazing how floral prints pop against the dark or limestone backgrounds, and basically just a perfect play of light at the time we shot this in Malta’s capital city Valletta. Truth is, shooting during the summer is hard. Not only because it’s most of the time too warm to wear anything else than light dresses or bikinis or to venture outside of the AC at all, but also it is too bright and warm.

In the peak of summer, there is almost no way around it – shiny foreheads, and over exposed backdrops. However, when you make an extra effort to play by the rules and stick to the “golden hours” ie sunrise or sunset – it means it is a better time to get beautiful images, ones with a slightly more romantic feel if that makes sense. Valletta is however quite pleasant late afternoon so we will be visiting a few times. I do love Valletta. Such interesting energy stems from its core.

Anyways, I’m not showing you this look only because I love how the photos turned out, but what I truly wanted is to make you see how gorgeous these new floral trousers, top and bag from River Island are. My love for colours and prints is growing bigger, but I am still very picky on the type of print and this one scored high points in my likeable score.

I’ve done some research on the internet about floral prints in particular; Brands including Miu Miu, Paul Smith, Tibi, Jason Wu, Salvatore Ferragamo are all showing lots of eye-popping bouquets this season. It seems that blooms will continue to flourish on clothing and accessories for fall 2017.

But this season, they are taking on a darker mood, blossoming from black-as-night backgrounds in a riot of vintage-inspired blues, greens, deep pinks, and creams and yes red one of my favourite colours of all time. It is also quite trending to wear floral accessories with floral prints. For some of you, it is a no no, but I have seen some looks and I have really warmed up to the idea. I did try one in my blog called Floral Fridays when I matched that floral bag with the floral shirt. It’s a matter of taste and style!

Get The Look

These floral print trousers from River Island fit so nicely above the navel so when I wore them with this black low cut crop top, the look turned out chic, just the way I had in mind. My intention here was to get dressed in comfortable attire and without a particular plan, just get lost like a wandering tourist in Valletta. We roamed around a few main tourist spots including Strait Street, St John’s Square, Piazza San Gorg and St Anne Square and some interesting side streets full of charm and Maltese character.

The trousers, top and bag are from River Island at The Point. I paired them with these statement Prada shades from Vision Opticians, my Michael Kors wedges and a light hat from the brand Parfois.

Here are some photos by Carlo Jourdan . Hope you like them as much as we do!
