Hi there! Caught your attention didn’t I? Great! Working out isn’t all about dropping weight or preparing for your next marathon. Anyone who makes it a routine of going to the gym, attending a yoga class or cycling is partaking of a secret known only to the ones who are physically active: The rewards of exercise extend far beyond slimming down or adding muscle tone. Dozens of subtle changes visibly revamp the body and the psyche in ways scientists are only beginning to understand and it does not happen overnight! And what’s more, exercise alone isn’t going to make you look and feel gorgeous — you need to pair your workout with healthy food choices too. Cut down on the alcohol intake, prioritise on your fibre intake, eat more foods rich in Vitamin A and drink plenty of water daily.

Your skin looks brighter, your step is bouncier and you’re more confident at work. Such small victories may go unnoticed by unobservant exercisers, but those on the lookout for these benefits will find them every bit as valid as gains measured on scales my friends! Why am I telling you this? Because I care and I wish to inspire some of you out there to keep training, keep walking, keep going to that yoga class because the benefits are happening on your body and your moods too!

Slower Cell Aging

Every chromosome in your body has a little protective cap, called a telomere, on its end, which determines how quickly your body’s cells age. Exercise lengthens those telomeres, according to the first-ever controlled trial of telomere length, published in The Lancet Oncology. The result: Fewer illnesses and a longer life, says lead author Dean Ornish, M.D., founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute.

Healthier Skin

What’s good for your body is good for the skin that covers it. When researchers from McMaster University in Ontario biopsied the skin of adults 40 and older, they found that those participants who regularly exercised had skin that, on a microscopic level, was similar to that of 20- to 30-year-olds.

Do you need more incentive to lace up your sneakers and get up on that treadmill at your favourite gym? Here’s a peek into a few of the ways exercise can make you look and feel fantastic.

1. Greater Self-Confidence
2. Improved Posture
3. Less Stress and Anxiety
4. Better Immunity and Detoxification
5. More Restful Sleep
6. Less Visceral Fat
7. Stronger Sex Hormones

Hoping I got your attention on all the points and not only the last one, I do wholeheartedly wish to inspire you to keep training regularly or to start doing something if you are still on the lazy side. I mean who does not want to look 10 years younger?
