Day in day out, I am one who tries to make time for everything under the sun, especially to what’s important and dear to me but I must admit I rarely make time for facials. I am used to my own skincare routines every morning and evening using different products throughout the year, and leading such a hectic schedule, it is usually difficult to pause in the middle of the day. However, when I do go for a professional facial I remind myself why it is such a blissful treat.
This month, after Malta Fashion Week 2017 edition and several days of wearing heavy makeup and lack of sleep, I thought I’d treat myself. I booked a 5 star facial at Marion Mizzi’s Spa at The Palace Hotel in Sliema.
Marion Mizzi Spa is all about well-being offering a range of spa treatments and products for persons with busy lifestyles and those who expect high quality as standard. Marion Mizzi Wellbeing Spa at the Palace Sliema is a highly recommended destination for extravagant and ultimate wellbeing treatments so I couldn’t wait to experience it for the first time. The six treatment rooms in this spa at The Palace offer a full range of tailor made spa therapies and a distinguished menu of manicures, pedicures as well as medical and alternative health therapies with a team of specialists are waiting to help you.
I arrived to the spa to be welcomed by the vibrant and charming manager Maria Ayuso who suggested I experience the “Signature Day” package which includes an Express Facial, Bliss Body Wrap and a Back Swedish Massage including access to the Spa facilities. I decided to go for this without the massage because I had an event to attend in less than a couple of hours.
I was then introduced to my therapist Justina Klejna who led me to the treatment room where I enjoyed an hour of pure bliss.
During the facial Justina performed a Luxury Enzymatic Peeling and also the Diamond and Caviar Face Mask by Clarena and to finish off the new Mizti All-in-1 Serum, which can only be purchased at Marion Mizzi Spas and Slimming Clubs. The treatment was extremely pleasant and I left the spa with my skin glowing and I felt great. Thank you so much for this outstanding experience!
Why have a facial?
Aside from the publicity and silly things you read in some fashion magazines and the pictures you see of women serenely wrapped in a towel with a mask on their face and cucumber slices over their eyes, the reality is facials can be hurtful or helpful, depending on the person who performs your facial, what exactly they are using, and what they are doing to your skin so I do make it a point to go to top places when I treat myself to a facial and I suggest you do the same.
Without question, facials are not mandatory for you to have beautiful, healthy skin, but for some skin types, and when done right, facials can be a beautiful addition to your skincare routine.
What are the Benefits of a Facial ?
Many women have enjoyed facials claim that they do them because it is a relaxing experience and I agree. But, ideally, a facial should be focused on the skincare, not just relaxation. If the relaxing experience is the sole reason you get facials (meaning you don’t see much of a difference in your skin from the experience), then you’re better off getting a full body massage instead.
Here is what a great facial like this one can provide over and above a relaxing experience:
- Thoroughly cleansed skin
- Plumping skin with a well-formulated moisturiser, which temporarily smooths out wrinkles.
- Softening and removal of blackheads and whiteheads
- Temporary improvement of severely dehydrated skin with rich, emollient nourishing masks that help to restore the skin’s natural barrier function
- Exfoliating skin with a gentle scrub, a light chemical peel, or a peel-off mask to achieve a smoother surface
- Help to fade brown discolorations, improve skin tone, and significantly reduce wrinkles with a professional treatments.
With these benefits in mind and at heart, I would like to say that I was totally satisfied with the service received from the Marion Mizzi Spa and will definitely return for more treatments with a stop for a coffee or dinner at one of the several restaurants in The Palace Hotel!
